Blank grids
Printable Cross Stitch Graph Paper
Set the paper, square size, rows and columns, then download a crisp vector PDF. Bold lines every ten squares match the way cross stitch charts are counted.
One sheet holds up to 101 × 132 squares. Your grid needs 1 sheet.
How to print graph paper at true size
- Download the PDF and open it in your browser’s viewer or a PDF reader.
- Choose Print, then set scale to Actual size or 100%. Turn off “Fit to page”.
- Print one sheet and measure ten squares. At 14 per inch they should span 0.71 in (18 mm); at 18 per inch, 0.56 in (14 mm).
- If it measures smaller, your printer added scaling; check the dialog’s “More settings”.
Designing on paper, then stitching
Paper is still the fastest way to try a motif: count out a border, fill squares with coloured pencils, then copy the design into the Studio to get symbols, counts and a proper key. For hand-drawn lettering, the alphabet charts give you ready-made letters to copy.
| Squares per inch | US Letter | A4 |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 72 × 94 | 70 × 101 |
| 14 | 101 × 132 | 98 × 142 |
| 18 | 130 × 170 | 126 × 183 |
Frequently asked questions
Will the squares print at the right size?
Yes, if your print dialog is set to “Actual size” or 100%. “Fit to page” or “Shrink oversized pages” scales the grid down. Measure 10 squares with a ruler after printing: on 14-per-inch paper, 10 squares should be 0.71 in (18 mm).
What size squares should I use for designing?
For sketching, larger squares (6–10 per inch) are easier to colour in. If you want the paper to show the true finished size of a design on your fabric, match the squares per inch to your Aida count.
Can I make a grid bigger than one sheet?
Yes. Enter the full number of columns and rows; the PDF splits it across sheets with numbered bold lines so you can tape them together.
Is there a blank grid inside the Studio too?
Yes. From My projects choose “Blank 60 × 60 grid”, or open /studio with your own size, and draw directly with the pencil and shape tools.
