Names, initials & phrases
Cross Stitch Text and Name Pattern Generator
Type a name, initials or a short phrase. Pick one of three stitch alphabets, add a border or a heart, then open it in the Studio to print or start stitching.
Lettering that is easy to stitch
Each alphabet here is drawn stitch by stitch as data, not traced from a computer font. That matters: computer fonts shrunk to a grid lose strokes or grow uneven blobs, while stitch alphabets are designed so every line is a whole number of stitches.
- Hearth Block (7 stitches tall): clear capitals and real lowercase with descenders. The default for names and phrases.
- Sprig Mini (5 tall): tiny small capitals for dates, bookmarks and tags.
- Ribbon Rounded (14 tall): a larger display face with smoothed diagonals for single words.

Frequently asked questions
How tall will my letters be?
Hearth Block capitals are 7 stitches tall (0.5 in on 14-count Aida), Sprig Mini is 5 stitches (about 0.36 in), and Ribbon Rounded is 14 stitches (1 in). Lowercase letters with tails, like g and y, add 2 rows (4 for Ribbon Rounded).
Can I type accented letters or other alphabets?
Not yet. The alphabets cover A–Z, a–z, digits and common punctuation. If you type a character the alphabet cannot stitch (for example é, ß or Arabic letters), the tool names it and asks you to replace it instead of silently dropping it.
How do I make a name pattern for a baby or child?
Choose the “Child’s name” template, type the name, then add a heart or star. Ribbon Rounded reads well from across a room; Hearth Block is better for long names. Open it in the Studio to add a birth date in Sprig Mini underneath.
Can I add a border?
Yes: single line, double line, dashed or a geometric frame, each with adjustable inside space and its own colour.
Are the alphabets free to use?
Yes. All three alphabets and the ornaments were drawn for this site and are dedicated to the public domain (CC0 1.0). See the Licenses page.
